Blanche Lazell (1878 - 1956) Limited Edition Fine Art Prints. Nettie Blanche Lazell was born in 1878 on the family farm in West Virginia. After local schooling she graduated from West Virginia University in 1905 with a BA in Fine Arts. She undertook further studies in New York and later settled in Paris, enrolling at the Academie Moderne with its avant-garde influences. She returned to the USA with friends from Paris, settling in Provincetown on Cape Cod, and there studied with Charles Hawthorne. In 1916 she visited an exhibition of woodcut prints by the Provincetown Printers which had a profound effect on her future work. She worked with the Provincetown printers until 1922. After a further stay in Paris she returned to Cape Cod in 1926 to teach and to enlarge her range of artistic interests. Blanche Lazelle died in 1956 leaving a huge portfolio of work, much of it now held in major museums in the USA.
